The existing cooling tower of the RCMP ‘K’ Division Head Quarters, which is original to the building,
has over time developed a buildup of lime scale, biological, and other mineral deposits in the fill
media and significant corrosion has developed within the tower. Both issues have reduced
the efficiency of the cooling tower. The buildup of deposits on the fill also creates a breeding
ground for bacteria that can cause legionella. The proposed work to remediate these impacts is to
refurbish the existing tower to maintain the original structure while bringing the efficiency of the
tower back to the original design and increasing the longevity of the tower structure vs. the costlier
option of replacing the entire tower.
