PWG301830 - Elevator upgrades (consulting services)

The Records Centre Building has two (2) passenger elevators that also function as service elevators when required. Originally installed by Otis, these elevators have been maintained by regular service contracts, and periodic repairs and upgrades have been performed. The elevators were completely modernized in 2012 by Otis that included new geared machines, motors and drives, hoist ropes, processors, door operators, and many other upgrades, as well as modifications for B44-07 code compliance.
 
This project involves upgrading the obsolete counterweight guide rollers on both cabs. The TSSA inspection report dated Feb 2016 indicates replacement. Otis has identified these as obsolete and full replacement is required to meet the TSSA mandate. Review of B-44 code for machine guarding as required by TSSA. The existing cab lighting has been problematic and failing; this should be replaced with new caged fixtures and LED bulbs.
 
The project will also include the installation of a sump pump in the elevator pits. Water collects periodically at the bottom of the pits, without any means of draining away, and which poses an electrical shock hazard restricting access by elevator mechanic. A previous flood has caused an electrical short of the lights in the pit and they are no longer operational. Furthermore, a GFI plug should be installed in the pit to facilitate service work.
