GOC372870-CS - Mitigate Issues with the Main Entrance Doors

To perform a detailed investigation and implementation strategy to address the code compliance, functionality and security concerns of the front doors of Lester B. Pearson Building. The doors are a character‐defining element (designed by Canadian Artist, Robert Hedrick). They consist of four (4) pairs of custom‐built bronze‐clad slab units, each unit weighs approximately 400 kg. The following components should be taken into consideration: Review of all existing components (closers, hinges, operators) ‐ Installation of locking mechanism that is integrated into fire alarm system Alternate forms of egress if the existing system cannot be modified to meet codes. The doors are a major egress routes for Lester B. Pearson Building in an emergency, the current design does not meet National Fire Code or Building Code Standards. These doors have manual lock system (pins and dead bolts) that is not integrated with the Building Fire Alarm System and therefore will not release automatically in an emergency. Heritage/FHBRO will be greatly involved.
