Description

Statement of Work/Overview:
Project intends to rehabilitate existing handrails and guards to meet requirements of NBC and CAN/CSA B651-04 to the greatest degree practicable while preserving the heritage aspects. There are three interior stairwells extending from the basement to the sixth floor. The interior handrails do not meet guard height requirements for NBC and grasp ability requirements for CSA B651. The height of the railings at the landings is too low. There are no tactile strips at the stair landings for the visually impaired. On the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the west stairwell the egress door swings in to the path of travel of the stairs. Exterior stair handrails do not extend past the nose of the stringers. The other stairwells need to be examined for similar deficiencies.
