GOC359644 - Condensate Tank Upgrade

The condensate tank at Freshwater Institute is leaking into the ground and requires replacement.  Domestic hot water, autoclaves and heating system run off of this tank.  This is an underground tank and the bottom wall of the tank has separated from the side walls.  The existing tank and associated piping needs to be replaced.  Asbestos wrap is on the pipe insulation.  There are photos of the equipment available.  Ground water testing is being completed by Operations.   
Installing the tank below grade makes the maintenance and operation of the tank more difficult.  Consideration should be given to installing the replacement tank above ground.  This should be considered in the IAR.
This project shall include investigating the possibility of adding a heat exchanger to preheat the city water going to the domestic hot water tanks using the condensate in the tank. The heating capacity of that heat recovery system needs to be evaluated, in conjunction with the existing electric hot water tank, and compared with the total DHW demand of the building. Recommendation should be made as to whether or not the existing steam domestic hot water tanks would still be required to satisfy the load (they would need to be replaced in a near future).
